I've always felt that we ripped off our fans with this release, and to any of our old fans who manage to find this review, you have my deepest, most sincere apologies. Since re-recording the drum tracks was out of the question, this mess was the ultimate result. By the time the double-time section came around, things were so ridiculously sped up that you'd think Charlie Benante was behind the kit. Unlike an actual live performance, Patty's tempo was way too fast from the start in this version, and then the drums eventually came in and pushed the beat even harder with soulless, masturbatory style and rather loose sense of time. It was recorded in a project studio on west 26th street in Norfolk,Va, with each musician coming in and laying their parts down individually and separately from the others.
To set the record straight, this was not recorded 'live' at JM Randall's, or anywhere else for that matter. PCB honed their version of this song to a fine point over the years, delivering it with soul, attitude, and above all, a groove that would wrap its arms around you and drag you in whether you wanted it or not. Bobby McGee was a staple of their set, one of the few covers that absolutely everyone, regardless of age group, could sink their teeth into. PCB was a working band that gigged tirelessly, relentlessly up and down the east coast. Actually, that's not accurate at all this isn't a pale representation, it's just bad.
